Start-up of Electric Furnace 3 in the Meltshop - with a 30 ton/heat capacity - and of the Oxygen Plant.

The expansion of the foundry not only supplies the Plant but also enables the production of parts to be traded in the domestic market.

Pig iron export activities increase in the period, with the entry of Japan among its buyers.

The forging area starts producing parts for the automobile industry in line with the policy of the President of Brazil then, Juscelino Kubitschek.

The Company establishes a regional branch office in Recife, Pernambuco state.

1957

 

In October, the Newiges furnace starts operation ant it is the first Latin American facility for the production of electric steel plates for motors and transformers.

Completion of the 80,000m3 charcoal bin and of the main warehouse building. Start-up of the water treatment station.

The Company seeks to maintain its financial stability and starts its first expansion plan.

Former Acesita is declared as a "company of military interest" to the Country, by a federal act issued on 15th October.

1955

 

Production of electrical steel plates is initiated. A contract for equipment purchase, technical assistance services and patent is signed with Walzwerk Newiges.

In October, the third power generating battery of Sá Carvalho Plant is inaugurated (18,000 kW). A regional branch office is established in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state.

1952

 

In April, the famous manually-operated plate mill starts operation. This equipment, which was imported from the United States, transforms bar rolling sheets into plates. However, production is still of regular steel grades.

The manually-operated plate mill is inaugurated and the electric blast furnace no. 1 starts operation.

Equity control is transferred to Banco do Brasil.

A regional branch office is established in São Paulo.

1951

 

In September, with the opening of São Carvalho Power Plant, Bessemer Melt Shop is started up and the production of regular and special steels is initiated. In November, the first ingot is rolled at the 24 mm blooming mill.

Banco do Brasil converts loan credits into shares and becomes the majority shareholder, with 78% of the Company's equity capital.
