Approval of the Development Master Plan, which establishes the guidelines for the second expansion of the Company. The Plan is financed by Banco do Brasil, through Finep, on an amount of Cr$ 5 billion.
One of the guidelines of the Plan is turn Timóteo into an 'open city'. Therefore, all buildings, leisure and trading centers, health care centers, schools, public security services and collective transportation services, until then solely administered by Acesita, are transferred to the community and the Town Hall. The houses are sold to the employees under facilitated conditions.

The small and medium bar mills start operation - Demag mill.

In April, the electric reduction furnace and the No. 2 Newiges furnace for electrical steel plate treatment start operation.

Even without new investments and in face of an adverse national political-economical scenario, the Company proceeds with its first expansion plan by using its own resources. The 875mm blooming mill and the Stein Roubaux electric pit furnaces start operation.
