The results exceed by 15% the nominal capacity, with a 2% yield improvement in the process of stainless steel lines and a record production of electrical steels.

1988


Record of 768,000 ton/year of raw steel, exceeding by nearly 30% the nominal installed capacity, which is 600,000 ton/year. Development of new electrical steel products, grain oriented and non-grain oriented.

Completion of the Master Plan for Environment Control, and Depollution of air and water at the Plant. Forty percent of the Company's production is intended to foreign market. The Company prepares for its privatization process, which took place in 1992. In Brasilia, a group dedicated to coordinate this process is created, with representatives of the Company, Banco do Brasil, Ministry of Treasure and Federal Privatization Council.

1985


Sendzmir Mill 3 starts operation, increasing the stainless steel offer and meeting the domestic demand, in addition to making other units available to produce electrical steels. The development of a policy to actively take part in the international market begins. By the second half of the decade, the Company will cease to be an occasional exporter and, by the end of the 80's it will be exporting to 33 countries.

1984


The sale of the ore mines located in Itabira to Vale brings a substantial capital increase, which enables the Company to complete its expansion process. Thus, the production of raw steel surpasses the installed capacity of 600 thousand ton/year.

1983

The Quality Control Circle (QCC) is implemented. The vertical integration and the use of charcoal as thermo reducer fuel grant the Company an outstanding international position among the integrated plants with similar technological standard. From 1983 to 1985, new investments will be completed for complementing phase 1 of the new expansion plan.

1980


The Company enters the 80's with a project of an integrated steel plant for special steels and a comprehensive production line, supplying material to domestic industries for the manufacturing of home appliances. In September, the first grain oriented electrical steel coil is processed for experimentation purposes. The first mission for technical cooperation on grain oriented electrical steel rolling process travels to Butler, Pennsylvania, in the USA.
