With investments of around US$ 600 million, the Company completes its fourth expansion plan in the second quarter of 1998, thus increasing the stainless steel line capacity from 160,000 t/year to 290,000 t/year.
The Company is associated to Usinor. The agreement with the pension funds enables an investment of R$ 1.02 billion, which reinforces the capital structure, speeds up corporate development and strengthens its strategic position in the market.

Modernization of the steel plant, expansion of Sá Carvalho Power Plant and construction of Timóteo's Craftsmen Institute (Instituto de Artesãos), which would later be called the Stainless Institute (Instituto do Inox).
The Company implements and promotes the project called 'Timóteo, the Stainless Steel Capital', with the aim of turning the city into a supplying center of stainless steel products and services. The project is a partnership with Timóteo City Administration, SEBRAE, INDI and ACIATI (Timóteo's Commercial, Industrial, Farming and Services Association) and is coordinated by ADT - Timóteo Development Agency.
The Stainless Institute, a partnership between ArcelorMittal Stainless Brazil, through ArcelorMittal Acesita Foundation, and AAPT (Timóteo's Retiree and Pensioner Association).
